The Bond Brain - Casino Royale
In this series of articles, we are going to take a look at the Bond brain as it manifests in the books, and see what useful lessons we can learn in applying Bond brain techniques in our own missions. As Casino Royale was the first Fleming novel, so shall that be our first stop.
The scent and smoke and sweat of a casino are nauseating at three in the morning.
That’s the opening line of the book, our entrance into Bond’s world, and from that opening line we can take something away to use ourselves.
Scent, smoke and sweat. How often do we go through our day, our very lives even, without appreciating the sensory experiences of it all? I mean not only smelling the roses along the way, but also being familiar with the steaming piles of excrement we are occasionally offered on our journey to day’s end.
It is the true connoisseur that knows not only the best life has to offer, but the worst. You will appreciate your Cohiba (the real one, not the counterfeit crap some knave in the Bahamas might have sold you), if you have also tasted some stool smelling stogie that a torcedor with arthritis might have created on some island you need fifty shots in your arm before visiting to have a chance of surviving.
Or to simplify it as one might have heard in an uptown bar in Live and Let Die… Ya gotsta know da bad as well as da good, if you wants to really ‘preciate what da good is.
Let’s take another look into CR for some Bond Brain secrets.
Bond liked to make a good breakfast.
So should you. It’s one of the things you can do to help control your weight, which is one of the things you have to do if you want to look good in your Bond type clothes that you spend so much time discussing on the James Bond lifestyle site.
Here’s some more Bond food for thought.
Bond was determined to be completely fit and relaxed for a gambling session which might last most of the night.
Your gambling session lasts your entire life. Your lifetime of chances taken in love, business, and your attempts at realizing a life well lived where there is no handful of regrets when it’s time to fold.
To do that, you have to be fit and relaxed. Completely. Carrying around fifty pounds of flab and fifty forms of worry never helped anyone achieve anything except an early death. So if you want to win at life’s card game, if you want that Royal Flush, keep fit and relaxed and “flush” out the physical and psychological toxins that prevent you from gaining the winning hand in all that you do.
We will explore more Bond Brain in Casino Royale (read part 2 here) and in the other novels in future articles.
