Prop Store Collectible Posters Live Auction 2024 James Bond posters
The Prop Store Collectible Posters Live Auction in London on 8-9 February 2024 features many vintage James Bond posters.
The live auction features 400 rare and collectible posters, artwork and more from over 200 films, with bidding available online, by phone or in person.
More than 50 James Bond posters will be on offer, some from the collection of David Frangioni, a published author, music businessman, producer, technologist, engineer, philanthropist, and drummer. Frangioni has worked with Aerosmith, Shakira, Ringo Starr, Ozzy Osbourne, Robbie Williams, and hundreds more. He is CEO of Modern Drummer Magazine and has several books published, including Clint Eastwood: Icon: The Essential Film Art Collection and Crash: The World's Greatest Drum Kits, both by Insight Editions. Frangioni is considered one of the world's most prominent and knowledgeable collectors of Clint Eastwood memorabilia and boasts an enviable archive of movie posters and memorabilia.
Some of the highlights:
Lot #185 - JAMES BOND: YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE (1967) - David Frangioni Collection: Special Teaser Poster, 1967
Estimate £5,000 - £10,000
This is a real mystery for most James Bond collectors, as it has a small numeral 2 in the lower left corner. It does not appear to be part of a larger poster or none that we can find a record of, and we speculate that it was perhaps a "wilding" poster to be used in cities to be pasted on walls and surfaces or to paste over a larger poster for the title. Please let us know if you know differently. With a script by Roald Dahl, the fifth James Bond movie was the first to depart drastically from its Ian Fleming-penned source material. Its highlights include a hollowed-out volcano villain base (designed by Ken Adam) and Donald Pleasance's acidly delicious portrayal of SPECTRE head Ernst Stavro Blofeld. This is a very rare poster.
Lot #180 - JAMES BOND: THUNDERBALL (1965) - David Frangioni Collection: US Six-Sheet, 1965
Estimate £2,500 - £5,000
"Look Up! Look Down! Look Out! Here Comes the Biggest Bond of All!". An unrestored US Six-Sheet poster for Sean Connery's fourth outing as 007 in Thunderball (1965). A striking large format poster that was originally issued in four sections designed to overlap when joined together.
Lot #169 - JAMES BOND: DR. NO (1962) - Japanese STB/Tatekan (Trimmed), 1962
Estimate £2,000 - £4,000
One of the scarcest of any James Bond posters from any of the series. A Japanese Tatekan (STB) from 1962 for Dr. No. This almost five-foot-tall poster features Sean Connery in action and from one of the most famous scenes from the film as he surprises his golf-playing house guest. The Tatekan STB format had much lower print numbers than regular Japanese posters, with this particular imagery unique to this release. They are very rare, almost impossible to find in any condition and are highly sought after by Bond collectors. Offered unrestored in two sections as originally issued to cinemas, it presents very well, with the top edge trimmed by approximately 4 1/2 inches. We have consulted with a professional paper restorer who has stated that the missing paper can be reinstated so that the poster appears complete.
