The Macallan 60 Years of James Bond Anniversary collection

The Macallan has released their James Bond 60th Anniversary Collection, six limited edition single malts launched to mark six decades of James Bond films, with some fantastic illustrations based on original Bond artwork.

1 for each decade of Bond

The single malt has been created by The Macallan Master Whisky Maker, Kirsteen Campbell, each liquid cut at 43.7% as an homage to the character’s agent number, 007.

Each edition features designs to denote the decade it represents.

Decade II, III and IV

The Macallan whisky is prominently seen in the 2012 James Bond film SkyFall and James Bond drinks The Macallan once again in SPECTRE (read more). In SkyFall, James Bond and Silva drink The Macallan Fine & Rare 1962 as a nod to the 50th Anniversary of the movie franchise at the time.

Packaging Design

The designers took original Bond artwork to create the package designs for each decade. Just as impressive as the package design is the animated promotional video for the whisky, which brings the drawings to life, watch it below.

Decade I and II

Decade I

The Decade I pack design explores the Bond innovations and archives of the 1960s. The pack design features exclusive original sketches including the Little Nellie combat sequence storyboard from You Only Live Twice (1967), the Interior Fort Knox Set Concept and Laser Room set design from Goldfinger (1964), and a technical drawing of the dummy jet pack worn by Bond in Thunderball (1965).

Decade II

The Decade II packaging design includes sketches and storyboards from The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Stromborg’s Atlantis marine research lab, and various space station concepts from Moonraker (1979).

Decade III and IV

Decade III

The packaging design for Decade III features a logo concept art from Octopussy (1983), an A.T.A.C Operations area sketch and storyboard sequence for the film For Your Eyes Only (1981).

Decade IV

The packaging design features a pre-title action sequence storyboard from GoldenEye (1995) and the concept for a stealth ship in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997).

Decade V and VI

Decade V

Decade V explores the Bond innovations and archives of the 2000s. The design features digital concept art of the Siena Gallery Interior from Quantum Of Solace (2008) and a driving sequence storyboard from Casino Royale (2006).

Decade VI

Decade VI explores the Bond innovations and archives of the 2010s. The pack design features a Day of The Dead poster from SPECTRE (2015) and a Skyfall Lodge illustration from SkyFall (2012).

Tasting notes

Nose: Fresh and vibrant notes of lemon and lime, a sprinkle of sherbet, leading into a sweet vanilla and coconut, with a hint of dried fig and raisin.

Palate: Orange zest and fizzy sherbet with a lemon freshness, gentle oak and subtle ginger spice, leading into a deep dark chocolate, figs and baked apple tart with a honey drizzle.

Finish: Sweet and long with complexed layers.
