Kneissl White Star skis
In the 1969 movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service, James Bond (George Lazenby), Tracy, Blofeld and his henchmen all use Kneissl White Star RS skis. The top of the skis is white with the red Kneissl star, and the bottom is painted yellow with a black star.
Bond finds the skis on Piz Gloria and uses them to escape. The pursuers, Blofeld and his henchmen, also use Kneissl skis.
Kneissl White Star skis can clearly be seen mounted on Tracy's (Diana Rigg) Mercury Cougar XR-7 and on the car of Blofeld's henchmen that come to the village, the yellow bottom with the star can clearly be seen. Bond and Tracy use these skis to get away from Blofeld.
In the sixties, the Kneissl White Star were top racing skis. They were the first synthetic ski with a wooden core, their edges screwed in. The bottoms were yellow with black strips of P-tex over the recessed screws. The handmade White Star skis were very sought after. Celebrities using Kneissl skis include a young Prince Charles, and The Beatles were using them in 1965 in Obertauern, Austria, while learning to ski for their film Help.
Vintage White Star skis are currently very hard to find, sometimes on eBay. Kneissl still makes the White Star skis although in a different shape and design than the 1960s versions.
