About Anthony Waye
From mail boy to executive producer, Anthony Waye’s illustrious career began more than 60 years ago, and has seen him work on more than 70 films, including 11 Bond films including Octopussy, A View to a Kill, The Living Daylights, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, Die Another Day, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, and award-winning titles The Elephant Man, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and Julia and two Carry On films.
Alison Small, CEO of The Production Guild of Great Britain says: “We’re very excited to begin this new series of ‘Close Up’ events in association with the British Council. We want to open up the world of film production to a wider audience by sharing captivating stories from Britain’s top production professionals. Anthony has worked on a staggering number of titles throughout his incredible career, during a period that has seen monumental shifts in production techniques. Presenting stories like his to the general public is a key part of our legacy work to share and preserve the history of film production for years to come, giving invaluable insights into this creative business in which the UK excels on a world stage whilst complementing the BFI’s plans to encourage people with skills and talent to consider a career in film. If you’re interested in what it takes to bring a major film to the big screen over the past 60 years, then you’re in for a real treat.”
Briony Hanson, the British Council’s Director of Film, will talk to Anthony about memorable moments working on iconic credits helmed by directorial greats like George Lucas, Stanley Kubrick, David Lynch and Sam Mendes, featuring celebrated actors like Laurence Olivier, Richard Burton, Katherine Hepburn, John Hurt and Daniel Craig. Anthony will talk about what he looks for in his crew, both on set and in the production office, and explain how developments in digital technology have changed his role over the decades. The floor will then be open for questions from the audience.
