On the question of leather vs rubber soles, keep in mind that leather can easily be resoled at a good local shoemaker or sending back to the manufacturer. Nearly all my shoes are Church's and I would expect to get 2 years from a leather sole - wearing the shoe 2 - 3 times a week and extensive walking (8km per day). A few days at my local shoemaker for new soles and they come back like new! A pair of leather soled Church's never really wear out, more fade away as I get a new pair every few years. Otherwise some of my Church's are 10+ years old.
