I have spoken to a tailor recently about John Lobb and the superb finish of these shoes.
Although worn formally ,a black Derby is less formal than an Oxford because of the 'open lacing'.However there seem's no relevence to that with this shoe because it is so stylishly understated.
I was also informed by this Tailor that English shoemaker 'Barker' offer excellent alternatives to many other top English shoemakers at a great price.The shoe he was wearing is called 'Tipton'by Barker and seemed not a million miles in appearance from this John Lobb,apart from the fact that I believe his shoe had three eyelets.
