Neiman Marcus Fantasy Gifts Aston Martin DBS Superleggera 'designed by Daniel Craig' and platinum Omega Seamaster Limited Edition

21 October, 2019

As you can see throughout this website I'm usually happy to write about any 007 special editions and related merchandise, but the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera 'designed by Daniel Craig' for the 2019 Neiman Marcus Fantasy Gifts feels a bit fake. Although the all-platinum Omega Seamaster Limited Edition you get for free with the car almost makes it worth the $700,007.

DBS Superleggera Neiman Marcus

The Neiman Marcus Fantasy Gift list is a rather disturbing offering of over-the-top expensive items you don't need nor can afford, including a $70,000 dog house based on the Taj Mahal. To make it seem slightly more legit, Neiman Marcus promises to donate part of the proceeds to charity.

The company offers 7 limited-edition Aston Martin DBS Superleggera cars in ink-blue, 'designed by Daniel Craig' and the following extras:

  • Airfare to London, courtesy of American Airlines, to see the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera come off the assembly line
  • One limited-edition, all-platinum Omega timepiece featuring a unique hand-engraved case back
  • Two tickets to the world premiere of the new James Bond movie, No Time to Die, with airfare and lodging included
  • Customer must provide three preferred travel dates to Neiman Marcus by February 2020; experience must occur by December 31, 2020

With a cost of $700,007, the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera 'designed by Daniel Craig' is the most expensive item on this Fantasy Gift list. But the word 'Fantasy' might have been taken a bit too far with this car: based on the photos, I seriously doubt that Daniel Craig spent more than 5 minutes on this "design" other than reading an email about it and replying 'Sure.' allowing his name to be used for the marketing.

And more worryingly, I also wonder if Aston Martin spent any time on designing this car, since the photos used are nothing more than photoshopped pictures of the DBS Superleggera OHMSS edition released earlier this year. That car was released to celebrate 50 years of On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Compare the images below of the green DBS OHMSS with the 'new' ink-blue OMHSS Neiman Marcus 'designed by Daniel Craig'.

Neiman Marcus used the picture of the green DBS OHMSS, changed the color in the photo and now suddenly has a 'blue' $700,007 Limited Edition 'designed by Daniel Craig'.

The image of the rear is also a photoshopped version of the DBS OHMSS press photo - and the color blue doesn't even resemble the color blue of the photo of the front of the car...

The photo of the interior design doesn't show any limited edition plaques or other Bond-style gadgets, but a rather unfitting M.C. Escher style pattern on the dashboard and doors.

Beware of another badly photoshopped image:

So based on these photos I'm not sure what special things you will get for your $700,007, and what Daniel Craig did, or what makes it 'James Bond' other than being an Aston Martin, but it looks like you will get a DBS Superleggera in a some sort of blue with an M.C. Esher inspired interior.

It would be great if the car resembled in any way the DBS that will appear in No Time To Die, but we don't know yet what that car will look like and how much it wil feature in the film.

I hope that we will get more information and photos soon about this Neiman Marcus car and the extraordinary lengths that Aston Martin and Daniel Craig have gone through to design a true collector's item, otherwise I'd be very disappointed.

Omega Seamaster Neiman Marcus Limited Edition

With the purchase of the Neiman Marcus DBS by Daniel Craig, you will get, for 'free', an Omega Seamaster also limited to 7 pieces.

As a Limited Edition, the Omega seems more interesting than the DBS. While the design is based on the recently released steel and gold 007 Limited Edition of the Seamaster, the Neiman Marcus edition of the watch is made from platinum.

It features a plaque on the side of the case with engraved number, gun barrel design on the dial and the Bond crest on the 12 o'clock position, all similar to the recently released 007 special edition, but in different materials. And this watch is limited to only 7 pieces, making it extremely rare compared to the 7007 pieces of the 007 Edition from last month.

Neiman Marcus and BMW Z3
In 1995, Neiman Marcus offered another Bond related car, the BMW Z3 Neiman Marcus 007 Edition, which sold out very fast due to high demand. Although some people will never be a fan of BMW as a Bond car, that BMW Neiman Marcus edition was at least a nice interpretation of the Z3 seen in GoldenEye and became a collector's car in its own right.

It remains to be seen if this 'special' DBS Superleggera will become as iconic.
