New Kickstarter launches 007 Drinks Archive book covering every James Bond drink

A new Kickstarter campaign has launched for The 007 Drinks Archive Book, a luxury hardcover book dedicated to the drinks, cocktails, bottles, glassware and bar accessories featured throughout the James Bond novels and films.

The 007 Drinks Archive by Chris Distin on Kickstarter

Created by author Chris Distin, the book covers all 13 Ian Fleming James Bond novels and the 25 official EON Productions films, spanning more than 70 years of Bond history.

James Bond collector and fan Chris Distin released another book, Golden Gun on Location, in 2024, and was instrumental in the release of the Duesenberg 007 guitar released in 2022.

The new Drinks Book project is the result of more than two years of research and over 3,000 hours of work. The finished book contains nearly 500 pages of drinks-related information, including details that, according to the author, have not previously been researched in a Bond drinks publication.

Among the topics covered are the origins of the first Martini glass, the history behind the Vesper Martini, and the porcelain tableware owned by Bond in the novels. The book also documents dozens of bottles, glasses and bar utensils featured in both the films and the books.

Distin explains that the project began with a much narrower focus.

"I am a passionate whisky drinker and have a dram or two on a regular basis, and one evening while downing a glass of uisge beatha, I thought I'd try and find every whisky drunk by James Bond and everyone else in the Fleming novels and all of the 25 official James Bond films made by EON Productions," Distin recalls.

As the research progressed, the scope expanded significantly.

"I realised the sheer variety and significance of drinks, bottles, and drinking paraphernalia that appear throughout Bond's world," Distin commented. "My project expanded to map Bond's drinks more broadly."

The author notes that he catalogued every drink-related object he encountered during the research process and uncovered previously unknown information about several items, including the Vesper Martini from Casino Royale.

"It took over two years to find all this information and double-check it to make sure I have the most accurate information possible for people who want to use this as a kind of reference guide," Distin said.

In addition to the printed content, 007 Drinks incorporates augmented reality features through the Artivive app. Readers can access videos featuring bartenders preparing Bond-inspired drinks and other multimedia content linked directly from the book's pages.

The project also includes access to an interactive map highlighting 37 London bars, hotels and restaurants connected to Ian Fleming. The map can be viewed on a mobile device and includes information from the book, allowing readers to explore locations associated with Fleming's time in the capital.

The book will be printed and bound in Germany and will be available in two editions. The standard edition features a leather-optic hardcover with gold embossing, while a special edition will be bound in recycled leather with gold embossing.
