Pinewood Studios names new sound stage after Sean Connery
Pinewood Studios, the famous place where most James Bond movies are filmed, has named a new sound stage after late actor Sir Sean Connery.
Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire made the announcement on August 25th 2022, to mark what would have been Connery's 92nd birthday. Pinewood Group chairman Paul Golding said: "We are delighted to announce that one of our five new sound stages at Pinewood Studios will be named, The Sean Connery Stage. The revered actor, and original James Bond, had a life-long connection with both Pinewood and Shepperton Studios. It is fitting that the naming ceremony will take place in 2022, the 60th anniversary year of the James Bond films."
Sean Connery played James Bond in films including Dr No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball and You Only Live Twice and also featured in many other films shot at Pinewood from 1957 onwards, including Woman of Straw, The Russia House, Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves and Entrapment. (His last outing as Bond in the non-EON produced film Never Say Never Again (1983) was not filmed at Pinewood.)
Pinewood Studios said his "interpretation of the role helped establish the foundation for the success of the James Bond series".
Connery's sons Jason and Stephane Connery said "Our family consider it a great honour to have a stage named after Sean. It is fitting considering the amount of time Sean spent at Pinewood and we know that he would have been very touched by this privilege."
Connery passed away in 2020 at the age of 90.
Other Sound Stages at Pinewood
James Bond producer Albert 'Cubby' Broccoli had one of the largest sound stages named after him in 1985, "The Albert R. Broccoli 007 Stage" also known as the "007 Stage". In 2017, on what would have been Sir Roger Moore's 90th birthday weekend, the studio he called home for over 40 productions unveiled "The Roger Moore Stage" in his honour.
