In the movie Die Another Day, James Bond (played by Pierce Brosnan) drives around Cuba in a 1957 Ford Fairlane convertible in a brown and cream color. The car is given to Bond by Raoul (Emilio Echevarria) after he asks for 'a fast car'. The Ford is shown nicely in the film, but Bond unfortunately doesn't do anything too spectacular with it, except driving it to the beach bar where he meets Jinx (Halle Berry). While driving, Bond is wearing his Persol 2672 sunglasses.

In Cuba there are still an estimated 60,000 American classic cars (mostly from the 1950s) driving around. Those American classics are called 'Yank tank' or 'máquina' in Cuban slang. The Ford Fairlane was sold between 1955 and 1971. The name was taken from Henry Ford's estate, Fair Lane, near Dearborn, Michigan. The Fairlane was initially a full-size car but became a mid-size car from the 1962 model year.

I must say I find it highly unlikely that there would exist a Fairlane in this marvellous condition in Cuba today. They USE their 50+ year-old cars, and they just look nothing like this good. But the Fairlane is cool - a bit more down to earth than the Thunderbird of the same vintage.

Many of the 1950s American Classic cars, in Cuba, are held together by wire and prayer, due to the scarcity of parts! Suspension of disbelief was definitely called for where the 1957 Fairlane was concerned!
