Gucci Horsebit Loafer Brown Suede
Bond villain Dominic Greene (played by Mathieu Amalric) wears a pair of Gucci Horsebit Loafer Shoes in the 2008 movie Quantum of Solace.
A loafer, or slipper, is a laceless slip-on shoe. The loafer shoes in the film are brown suede with probably gold coloured horsebit buckle.
The horsebit (or "snaffle-bit") detail on the loafers is inspired by the time, just after WWI, that orginal Gucci founder Guccio Gucci worked in London's famous Savoy hotel. There he overheard the conversations of the English aristocracy about horse racing and polo. Mr Gucci quickly understood how much the world of horses meant to this privileged group of men and women, and later he made equestrian imagery a feature of the brand he wanted to set up.
Guccio's son Aldo Gucci launched the Gucci Loafer in 1953 and the horsebit was added in 1966. The Gucci Loafer became a favorite of the jet set, politicians, movie stars and celebrities.
In movies the horsebit loafers are often worn, for example by Dustin Hoffman in Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), Matt Dillon in Drugstore Cowboy (1988), Matt Damon in The Talented Mr Ripley (1999), Brad Pitt in Fight Club (1999), Michael Sheen in Frost/Nixon (2008), Shia LaBeouf in Wall Street 2 (2010), Leonardo Di Caprio in Wolf of Wall Street (2013). The design is part of the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Read more of the history of the Gucci Loafer on MrPorter.com.
Gucci in Bond films
In On Her Majesty's Secret Service, James Bond (George Lazenby) packs a Gucci leather suitcase. In The Man With The Golden Gun, Gucci suitcase, shoulder bag and a Gucci belt can be spotted.
Another Bond link: creative director Tom Ford helped the Gucci brand to regain its old glory in the 1990 before launching his own Tom Ford brand, which has been supplying Bond with his sunglasses, cufflinks, shirts, coats and suits in Quantum of Solace, SkyFall and SPECTRE.
