Orlebar Brown adds Bond Reimagined pieces to 007 Heritage Collection

Orlebar Brown has added more shorts and shirts to their 2020 James Bond 007 Heritage Collection. Orlebar Brown calls it the "007 reimagined" capsule, with two items now offered in new colourways that are not related to the original items seen in the film.

Earlier this month, Orlebar Brown released iconic pieces based on clothes seen in the early James Bond films, but recreated for a modern audience. Highlights include swimming trunks, polo shirts and a striped shirt worn by Sean Connery, a linen suit worn by George Lazenby and dark shirts and jacket worn by Roger Moore as James Bond. The 2020 Orlebar Brown James Bond 007 Collection follows the 2019 007 Collection (which featured a large amount of recreated pieces) and the first instalment in 2018, which featured 4 poster print swim shorts.

The newly added pieces are not recreations of pieces seen in the movies, but colour variations of the 2019 Dr. No Towelling Polo Shirt and the 2019 Thunderball Shorts. The shirt and shorts were part of the 2019 007 Collection, in Riviera blue, the colour more close to the items in the movies.

Dr No Towelling Polo Shirt

Orlebar's popular towelling fabric was used for the light blue polo shirt famously worn by Sean Connery in Dr. No, in the famous beach scene when he meets Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress).

Unfortunately this light blue version, which more matches the movie shirt, is not available anymore. Orlebar Brown does now offer the blue Dr. No trousers in the collection, to complete the look with the original blue shirt. Orlebar Brown does offer some other blue towelling polos but those don’t have the 007 labels of course.

The shirt's material is lightweight and easy and finished with a ribbed collar and ribbed cuffs.

All new Dr No polos do have the 007 labels

Another different interpretation of the shirt worn by Bond in that scene is also part of the 2020 Collection: a creme white Dr. No Knitted Polo shirt, a colour which is based on an original promotional photo for the film where the colour of the shirt and trousers was altered (read more).

Thunderball shorts

Blue belted Jantzen shorts were worn by James Bond in Thunderball in The Bahamas when diving and meeting Domino. Orlebar Brown offered a pair of blue shorts inspired by this iconic piece in their 2019 Bond Collection.

Orlebar Brown shorts have belt loops like the original, but there is not a real belt attached to the shorts. Instead the waist band has a darker colour. Perhaps more practical, but not original. Some fans have added a dark belt themselves to get closer to the movie shorts. This light blue version is not available anymore.

Besides the pink version, which resembles the 2019 pink Thunderball shorts, the new colours for this particular model have not much to do with James Bond shorts from the Thunderball movie. That said, I do quite like the colours for these shorts though. Orlebar Brown sent me all three colours and they do look quite good in real life. So this is more a way to offer the interesting model with different colour waistband to people who prefer a different colour than blue.
