Lock & Co. Oddjob Bowler Hat
This distinctive square-top bowler hat pays homage to the original design made by Lock & Co. for Oddjob actor Harold Sakata in the movie Goldfinger (1964).
The hat plays an important part in the film, as it is modified with a metal razor trim to work as a weapon when thrown at someone. Oddjob demonstrates the power of the hat at the Stoke Park Golf Course (chopping off the head of a statue) and he later uses the steel-rimmed bowler to kill Tilly Masterson (Tania Mallet).
The James Bond Oddjob Bowler Hat is part of the 007 x Lock & Co. limited edition collection.
The Oddjob hat is made in a limited series and crafted by hand in the traditional way with a highly breathable internal leather sweatband, a black mourning band and finished using black Escorial wool. The particularly fine quality of wool comes from a rare sheep breed founded by King Philip II of Spain in 1584. Escorial is a rare and luxurious wool, which today can only be found in small numbers in Australia and New Zealand. The Escorial fibre is like a curled spring and when stretched throughout the production processes its natural memory returns it to the original curled state. It is this characteristic that makes Escorial hats lightweight and resilient.
Note that the original Oddjob was also by Lock & Co. Hatters. This new Lock & Co. hat is inspired by the original one worn in the film but doesn't have the metal ring that made the hat in the film so lethal.
