Sam Smith wins Oscar for SPECTRE's theme song Writing's On The Wall
Last night, Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes won the Academy Award for "Original Song" with their SPECTRE theme song Writing's On The Wall.
Other nominees for the Music Oscar were “Earned It” from Fifty Shades of Grey (Music and Lyric by The Weeknd, Ahmad Balshe, Jason Quenneville and Stephan Moccio), “Manta Ray” from Racing Extinction (Music by J. Ralph, Lyric by Anohni), “Simple Song #3” from Youth (Music and Lyric by David Lang) and “Til It Happens To You” from The Hunting Ground (music and Lyric by Diane Warren and Lady Gaga).
Sam Smith dedicated the Oscar to the LGBT community. “I stand here tonight as a proud gay man, and I hope we can all stand together as equals one day,” Smith said in his speech.

The Oscar adds to the success of the SPECTRE song that has also been much criticised by fans. It became the first James Bond theme song to ever reach number 1 at the UK charts. And earlier this year, Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes won the Golden Globe for the song.

It's the second James Bond theme song to win an Oscar: in 2013, Adele and Paul Epworth won the Oscar for the SkyFall theme song.
The theme song for SPECTRE, Writing’s On The Wall performed by Sam Smith, is available on Apple Music or Spotify or buy on iTunes.
